Annabell’s
World
Leaving Home
On a windy and wet October day Annabell was cold, very cold. She
was fed up with dull days, partes and jeans. She desired tropical
heat, satin and an adventurous journey. She finally couldn’t take it
anymore, and ran out of the house with just the clothes on her back.
Now here
she was, out on the road, all alone, only eighteen years old, no
money, and no prospects! Craning back to see if a car
was coming, she automatically stuck out her thumb when a big limo
zoomed by. Brake lights!!!! It’s stopping!!!!
The big white auto came to a
stop about two hundred yards down the road and slowly backed up to
where Annabell was standing. The passenger side opened. Without any
speaking, Annabell hopped in, sinking down in the deep leather
bucket seat. She cautiously looked over at the driver and was
relieved to see it was a middle aged man in a business suit with a
name Mr DayDreamer on it. "Hello I’m Annabell, thanks for picking me
up." They rode along in silence for the next ten minutes until the
man asked her, "Where are you
headed to, Annabell?" "I don’t
really know," she replied, "a
better place." "You got quite a trip in front of you missy," the
stranger intoned, "where are
you coming from?" Annabell really didn’t want to answer all these
questions, but she continued on, "From
grey world." "Well, I can take you as far as you want, but then I
will ask you for something," he said. The girl didn’t
answer,
she
just leaned back in the seat and soon was sawing logs. She
didn’t know how much time had
gone by when a gentle shake of
her shoulder brought her back to life. "We’ll stop here and get
something to eat," said Mr DayDreamer, "you look like you could use
a bite!" "That’s okay," Annabell replied, "I’ll just wait here if
it’s all right with you?" "Honey," he said gently, "it’s on me, now
come on and let’s eat!!!" She was famished, and this good Samaritan
was making her an offer she couldn’t refuse, so she hopped out of
the car and joined for suppe.
